This policy explains how Whispr Journal handles information. The App is operated by Oğuz Tonyalı (“we,” “us,” or “our”). Your saved journal is stored locally, while optional dictation and Premium purchases involve the Apple and RevenueCat services described below.
1. Local journal and preferences
Whispr Journal does not require registration or operate a first-party journal server. Typed entries and saved transcripts are stored in the App’s local SwiftData database. Local search, favorites and the journal calendar operate on those entries, not on an online account.
- Entry identifier, title, body text, creation and update dates.
- Optional mood, tags and favorite status.
- The entry’s theme and dictation language.
- Theme, reading mode, dictation-language and Journal Lock preferences, onboarding status and a free voice-session counter stored in local settings.
Entries may contain sensitive information you choose to write, such as health, relationships or beliefs. We do not receive the saved journal database. The App does not provide its own cloud journal synchronization; Apple device backups may include App data according to your device and backup settings.
2. Voice dictation and Apple Speech Recognition
Dictation is optional. The App requests Microphone and Speech Recognition permission when you start using voice input. Audio is captured while a dictation session is active and passed to Apple’s Speech framework to produce text. Whispr Journal does not save an audio recording file or send microphone audio to a server operated by us.
When the selected speech recognizer supports on-device recognition, the App requires on-device processing. When it does not, recognition may use Apple’s servers and transmit the audio you dictate to Apple. Dictation is therefore not guaranteed to be offline. Apple’s processing and retention are governed by its policies and your applicable settings. The resulting transcript becomes part of your local entry if you save it.
You can stop dictation, leave the entry screen or switch to typing. You can also revoke microphone or speech-recognition permission in iOS Settings and continue typing. For particularly sensitive content, use typed input if you do not want to use speech recognition.
3. Journal Lock and device authentication
The optional Premium Journal Lock uses Apple’s LocalAuthentication framework, which may authenticate with Face ID, Touch ID where supported, or the device passcode. The App receives the authentication outcome, not your biometric template or passcode. We do not collect facial scans, fingerprints or authentication credentials.
Journal Lock is an additional App access control, not a separate encrypted vault or a guarantee against all access. Device security, backups, screenshots and any copies you share remain important. Whispr Journal does not implement a separate end-to-end encrypted cloud service.
4. Purchases and RevenueCat
Apple processes weekly or yearly subscriptions and any lifetime purchase. RevenueCat validates and restores Whispr Premium access. It processes an App-specific anonymous identifier, device/OS and App version information, product and transaction identifiers, receipts or purchase records, entitlement and renewal status, and service contact times. This identifier can link purchases to the same App customer even though you do not create a journal account.
We do not receive full payment-card details. Whispr Journal does not send journal text, titles, moods, tags, search terms, transcripts or microphone audio to RevenueCat. Purchase-related requests may occur when the App starts or refreshes access, not only when you buy something.
5. Export and sharing
When you choose “Export as text,” the App supplies the selected entry’s title, body and creation date to Apple’s share sheet. Information leaves the App only through the destination you select for that action. Copies saved in Files, messaging, email or another service are governed by that destination’s policies and are not protected by Journal Lock. Sharing a copy does not delete the original entry.
6. Support and website visits
If you email us, we receive the address, message and attachments you choose to send. We use them to answer your request, resolve problems and keep necessary support records. Please avoid sending a complete journal or sensitive entries unless necessary.
Opening these public legal pages or other external links makes a separate web request. The website host may process ordinary connection information such as IP address, requested page, browser details and request time for delivery and security. Opening a legal link does not upload your journal.
7. Permissions and services not used
The current App does not request access to contacts, location, the camera, your photo library, HealthKit or your system calendar. The in-App calendar displays your journal dates and does not read Apple Calendar events. There is no advertising SDK or separate general-purpose analytics SDK in the App, and it does not access the advertising identifier or track you across other companies’ apps and websites.
We do not sell or rent personal information, use your saved entries for advertising, or upload them to our own AI model or an external generative-AI service. Apple Speech Recognition is a separate transcription service as explained above.
8. Purposes and legal grounds
Information is handled to create and organize entries, provide optional transcription and authentication, remember preferences, apply free/Premium limits, validate purchases, respond to support and comply with law. Where data-protection law requires a legal basis, we rely on performing the service you request, consent for optional permission-based features where required, legitimate interests in support and security, and applicable legal obligations. Withdrawing permission prevents future use of the affected feature; it does not automatically delete a saved entry.
9. Sharing and international processing
Recipients are Apple for App Store services and optional speech recognition, RevenueCat for purchase management, providers handling a support message, and recipients you choose when sharing. Information we hold may also be disclosed when legally required or necessary to protect rights and safety. We cannot disclose local journal content we do not possess.
Apple, RevenueCat and support or hosting providers may process relevant information outside your country. RevenueCat processes customer data in the United States. Applicable contractual and legal safeguards govern these transfers; Apple’s independent services are also subject to its policies.
10. Retention and deletion
Saved entries remain on your device until deleted through the App or removed with the App, subject to device backup/restore behavior. Preferences and the free-session counter remain until their local storage is removed or changed. The App does not retain dictation audio files; any Apple-side processing and retention are separate from local entry deletion.
Deleting the App does not cancel a subscription or remove backups, exported copies or purchase records. You must manage those separately. We retain support correspondence only as reasonably needed for the request, security, disputes and legal obligations. Purchase records remain as necessary for access, transactions and compliance. We can assist with requests concerning purchase/support data we control, but cannot remotely recover or delete your local journal.
11. Your choices and rights
You can use typing instead of dictation, decline permissions, omit moods or tags, delete entries, decide whether to share and manage purchases through your Apple Account. Depending on your location, you may have rights to access, correct, delete or obtain a copy of personal information, restrict or object to processing, withdraw consent and complain to a competent data-protection authority. Contact us for information held by us or processed on our behalf. We may need proportionate information to verify a request; you do not need to send journal entries merely to identify a purchase.
12. Children and sensitive content
Whispr Journal is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information directly from them. A parent or guardian who believes a child has sent us personal information can contact us. Use care when writing about other people, speaking around them or exporting sensitive entries.
13. Security
The App relies on iOS application storage protections and Apple’s authentication mechanisms; purchase requests use encrypted transport. These measures do not guarantee absolute security or recovery. Protect your device and passcode, review your backup settings and be careful with exported copies.
14. Provider information
More information about the services described above:
RevenueCat handles App-customer purchase information on the developer’s behalf; contact us for requests about that information.
15. Updates and contact
We may update this policy when the App or its data practices change. The date above identifies this version; material changes will be communicated as required by law. For Whispr Journal privacy questions, contact Oğuz Tonyalı at support@novelverseapp.com.
